Use visual strength grading method to get the maximum benefit of your timber's quality characteristics!
Individual pieces of timber exhibit a wide range in quality and appearance with respect to knots, slope of grain, shakes and other natural characteristics. Therefore, they vary considerably in strength, utility and value.
The sorting of timber allows our company to determine whether the goods correspond to specific standards. The extent to which wood corresponds to one or another class depends on the number of branches, the quality of fibre, as well as gaps in the wood. Our sawn timber is being sorted only by experienced specialists with appropriate certification. Depending on its quality, wood is used for furniture manufacturing, carpentry, construction, manufacturing of packaging and etc.
Visual strength grading is the testing and evaluation of the bending strength and breaking resistance of every individual piece of structural timber according to the set standards. AB Timber Group is certified by international certification company BM TRADA for strength grading softwood for construction purposes according to the visual grade standards as set out in the BS 4978 and selected parts of EN 14081-1.
Visual strength grading method takes more time in comparison to mechanical strength grading, but in most cases the number of defects and the extent to which the timber is appropriate for the needs of our business partners can be specified much more precisely.
This enables AB Timber Group to provide its business partners with various structural grade classes like C16, C18 and C24. Every piece of strength graded timber board is marked with a certified grade stamp mentioning moisture content, grading method and the strength class.
Strength graded timber enables our business partners to select timber with sufficient minimal strength required for a particular structural function like usage inside a wall element, a floor joist or a roof truss.
